Strengthening public confidence in government is a critical function of the District Attorney. To that end, the Public Integrity Division exists to ensure that elected and appointed officials and their subordinates comply with the law in the course of their service to residents. The Division is comprised of senior prosecutors and investigators who work with outside law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute any matter involving the criminal misconduct of a public official or public servant in connection with his or her official duties.
The prosecutors assigned to the Public Integrity Division evaluate complaints of criminal misconduct by public servants at all levels, including city, county, state, and federal government. These crimes include, but are not limited to, theft by a public servant, fraud, bribery, tampering with government records, official oppression, and misuse of official information. The Division is also responsible for prosecuting violations of the Election Code.
Verifiable accounts by citizens are an essential resource for the Public Integrity Division in exposing and investigating instances of public corruption. Accordingly, the Division encourages the submission of complaints by citizens in addition to referrals from law enforcement agencies. If you have reason to believe a public servant has committed a crime in the course of discharging official duties, please contact the Public Integrity Division via phone at (713) 274-5911, or via email here.
